Headquarters: World War II é um jogo de estratégia por turnos frenético que aborda a Batalha da Normandia em três campanhas direcionadas pela narrativa e vários conflitos. Escolha seu lado, monte sua força, escale heróis, suba o nível de suas unidades e use habilidades de Quartel-general (Headquarters) para subjugar o inimigo. Veja todos os lados da história concluindo três campanhas, cada uma com nove operações. O jogo inclui campanhas dos Estados Unidos, Reino Unido e Alemanha, todas na época da chegada à Normandia. Altere ou aprimore suas unidades entre as batalhas, suba o nível delas e atribua heróis com habilidades exclusivas a elas. Cada unidade tem uma equipe, que é o coração dela. Perder membros diferentes da equipe gera penalidades diferentes. Ficar sem um atirador diminui a capacidade de ataque da unidade, perder um motorista prejudica a mobilidade, e assim por diante.
